CHAPTER 8
Clenching fists and mental mist.
Ms Kirk dug her nails into the skin of her clenched fists. Almost black blood dripped to the floor. Her face turned a deep shade of red and the veins on her forehead swelled. An explosion was imminent. ‘You can’t have her! She has to be punished! What is the use of instilling discipline when she’s simply having an easy ride out?’ screamed Ms Kirk stamping her foot.
‘But from what we can gather you didn’t want her here in the first place,’ said the female parent.
‘That’s not the point! And well I changed my mind! There has been strange goings on since she arrived and I want those mysteries solved before I hand her over to anyone.’
‘What kind of mysteries?’ asked the male parent in a suspicious tone.
‘That is school business and cannot be disclosed to outsiders.’
The parents glanced at each other. Did they have any idea?
Ghost stood by the door of the great hall listening. Davina sneaked into the same corridor so she could ear-wig too.
‘If she catches you she’ll have a fraz,’ said Ghost cautiously.
‘I can’t get in any more trouble than I’m already in?’
Ghost smiled, ‘I’m sure you can, you seem to have a natural ability. Erm, look Davina, now that I’m not so shocked there’s something I have to tell you.’
‘Okay...’
‘Well when we were in the woods...’
The door of the office was flung open and Ms Kirk snarled. ‘Who on earth told you you could come inside the school building?’
Davina flinched, ‘I needed the toilet.’
‘The toilets are that way child! Now go before I...’
The two potential parents stood by the door staring at Davina. ‘She’s more amazing than we were informed. I didn’t realise she would be so small considering...’
The female parent knelt down, ‘it’s so wonderful to finally meet you after all the stories we’ve heard.’
Davina studied the woman closely, ‘do you know who my parents are?’
‘That is so sweet and so naive.’
Davina frowned, ‘I don’t get what you’re saying.’
‘Once we get you away from here, all will be revealed. Thank God we got to you before the others did.’
‘What others?’
‘Don’t worry, it’s better that you don’t remember.’
Davina studied the two parents. What did they know about her memory?
‘Come with us,’ said the female parent turning towards a very angry looking teacher. ‘Ms Kirk we are taking her! We strongly advise you to let her go with us otherwise all manner of strange things will keep happening to this school. And I assume you know this is only the proverbial tip of the iceberg.’
‘What do you know of it?’ scowled Ms Kirk.
‘You wouldn’t believe us if we told you.’
‘I’m all ears!’
The parents shook their heads, ‘you’ll find out eventually, but it’s in your best interest that we take her now. If she stays here any longer all manner of disaster will befall you.’
Ms Kirk stared accusingly at Davina. ‘What kind of disaster?’
‘Worse than you could ever imagine,’ said the male parent. ‘Anyway she was never supposed to come here in the first place and I think you know that don’t you Ms Kirk? You intended to conceal her didn’t you? Now her time here has hindered her. Luckily we have found her now. Ms Kirk you know this will be looked upon unfavourably!’
‘I don’t care! All the while she is here the more I can keep an eye on her!’
Davina was stunned! Something strange was going on and she didn’t like it. Davina stared out of the large patterned window towards the forest. She blinked at the sight that flickered for the briefest moment. Davina wondered whether she was seeing things, she could have sworn she just saw a boulder move.
